Last week it was record A Level results and this week, it's the same with the GSCE results, students from schools in South London and in particular Crystal Palace, Croydon and Lambeth achieved record grades again this year.
-
The dreaded exams are over and the results are in...
Students at the exceptionally popular, Brit School in Croydon achieved 97% of A* - C grades, with 65% achieving five or more A* - C grades in English and maths and 99% of students passing BTEC First Diploma (equivalent to 4 GCSE's) in their respective art field.
Harris City Academy in Crystal Palace, has broken achievement records for the third year running with 88% of students gaining five or more A* - C grades including English and maths, complete with an official Ofsted 'perfect' inspection report, Harris Academy has sealed it's place amongst the best schools in the country.
There was also impressive GCSE results at other local schools including Virgo Fidelis School and Sydenham High School, which was listed on the school league table as one of the best schools in London in 2009. At Croydon High School two girls Frederiekje Fayd' Herbe De Maudave and Natalie Coulthwaite both scored an incredible 11 A*'s.
So given the results, it seems the bad press attached to some south London schools, is biased and unfair, thsis year's results prove yet again that with hard work and support, anything is achievable. The issue now is what these talented young people can do next - university places are limited and so is the financial support needed to fund a degree, as are jobs, training and apprenticeships, (thanks to the new coalition government). Climbing the corporate ladder may be the only way and excellent GCSE and A Level results offer the best possible start. CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL STUDENTS WHO PASSED.
