Best Local Shops For Back To School Supplies

It seems like only last week the kids broke up for the summer holidays, (but then I don't have any tantrum-prone toddlers or temperamental teens to keep busy for six long weeks!) It is actually only two weeks till the start of the new school term and savvy mums are on the lookout for the best back to school bargains on the high street.

Unfortunately in Crystal Palace shops of this nature are somewhat limited and most of the major retailers are based in Croydon and Bromley, but there are a few great shops in the local area, here are our favourites:

School Clothing & Footwear

Shoes almost always need replacing every year and from personal experience it is the one item of school uniform kids are always happy to shop for. Merlin on Westow St, is the only place to go to for a great affordable range of kids school shoes, including Clarks.

For the rest of the school kit, locals will have to venture out a little further but not too far, Sydenham High St clothing shop Wear Abouts, is the only local supplier of uniforms for many local schools, they are also a major stockist of Kickers shoes and boots.They are open six days a week and have a great range of affordable clothing for kids all ages. Those who have children at Harris City Technology College, will now have to travel to Hewitts of Croydon, for their uniforms.

Stationary & Books

Since the loss of our beloved branch of Woolworths, locals have had to go elsewhere for their stationary, pick-n-mix, CD's, DVD's and household items, namely to Sainsbury's which currently has a fantastic 3for2 offer on all back to school stationary, larger branches also stock great school clothing for under £5! And if you want to treat your kids or even yourself to some great books, then you should head to Bookseller Crow on Westow St, where you can browse a captivating selection of fiction and non fiction books and novels for young and old, in comfortable surroundings.
