Members of the Crystal Palace Transition Town are organising lots of exciting events in and around the Triangle during Fairtrade Fortnight (February 27 – March 11th). Kick-off is at 7.30pm on Sunday 26th February with a screening of the multiple award-winning ‘Black Gold' at the Gipsy Hill Tavern.
Multinational coffee companies rule our cafes, shops and supermarkets and dominate the industry worth over $80 billion, making coffee the most valuable trading commodity in the world after oil.
But while we continue to pay for our lattes and cappuccinos, the price paid to coffee farmers remains so low that many have been forced to abandon their coffee fields.
'Black Gold' tells the story of the struggle of an Ethiopian coffee farmer against the might of the multinational companies that dominate the international coffee market.
“EXCELLENT - angry, good-humoured and essential" - OBSERVER (Philip French)
“Remarkable - A moving but scandalous story. Black Gold has extraordinary power” - DAILY TELEGRAPH (David Gritten)
"Scathing, vivid, galvanising" - Time Out
Come see it for free at the Gipsy Hill Tavern on Sunday 26th February!
