I have lived in Crystal Palace for eight years and it has always had a reputation for being a bit 'wild' at night, it is like a petulant teenager with a dual personality - presentable, pleasant and polite during the day, turning into alcohol induced ignorance, arrogance and hostility, as the sun sets.

This weekend an innocent man was attacked, after a fight broke out in Numidie, on Westow Hill. The local man, who is in his 40's, was glassed after he tried to intervene, witnesses said he was left with serious head injuries after stepping in to act as peacemaker while out celebrating his girlfriend's birthday, on Sunday night.

It is such a shame (but sadly inevitable) that someone brave enough to step in and stop a fight, would then become the target of such a brutal attack, behaviour like this almost guarantees the elimination of Joe Public's moral obligation to assist another individual in trouble, which is has much more serious implications for us all.

Thankfully attacks of this nature are still fairly rare, but non the less frightening when contemplating a night out at a local bar.Croydon police are still investigating the incident and any witnesses should call 0300 123 1212 or report it to Crimestoppers anonymously.

I am so sorry to hear that you're bravery lead to such horrific consequences, there are no excuses whatsoever for that kind of behaviour and I hope that the perpetrator is given a fitting sentence. I have experienced the very same attitude on many weekends out in palace and it does seem sometimes that the number of small minded idiots hanging out in the area has increased, making it very hard for those of us who have just gone out to have a good time. I have a friend who will no longer drink in palace after she was attacked by another female, so these incidents are not just restricted to males, as is usually implied by the media. It is very comendable you have such a forgiving nature and I hope you feel better soon.

    Yep, it wasn't nice.

I had 17 stitches in my head in 2 wounds and will be scarred for life. Took them 10 hours to get the glass out at Kings and ruined a great evening not to mention my favorite bar for me and my partner. The police are over it like a rash though so I am hoping the idiot likes prison food! I survived 3 tours of NI in the Army and then end up with this is the boho hangout of Numidie. What's the world coming to eh!

I love SE19 and have lived here on and off since my teens. I moved back 'for good' 8 years ago with my young family but do seem to be plagued by small minded idiots trying to act 'gangsta' every time I go out for a drink – in one way or another, even if it's just pushing in front of you with 'tude' at the bar. Saturdays are definitely the worst as well.

But like the Murphy's, I'm not bitter!
