The annual celebration that is Sydenham Arts Festival, takes place at various venues around the local area and it's a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy their favourite creative pastimes, with workshops, taster classes and guest speakers to guide you through a selection of books, live music, dance, art, design, craft, jewellery making and activities for the kids.
Last year's festival was a massive success and as a result this time around there are quite a few more events and activities taking place across Sydenham, from Friday 1st - Sunday 17th July. Kicking off with a Theatre workshop presented by Freedom Academy, where professional actors and choreographers will teach you routines, songs and scenes from popular West End musicals.
There will also be an exhibition of innovative book covers by designers, from graffiti artists and tattooists to traditional landscape paintings, and a talk by Coralie Bickford-Smith, Senior Book Designer for Penguin, a celebratory evening of live soul and jazz music with guest artists and DJ ShiLove, a T.Shirt designing workshop with TV's Kirsten O'Brien, playwrighting workshop with BATFA award winning Roy Williams, an introduction to from Andrew Motion, the Poet Laureate from 1999 to 2009, to his latest collection of war poems presenting scenes from conflicts of the 20th & 21st centuries and an Edinburgh Festival preview from comedy writer Lloyd Langford, who has written for 'Live at the Apollo' and 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks,' and lots more...
