This week it's GCSE results week and these have been just as successful as last weeks A Levels. Girls are ahead once again, with over 26% achieving a top A* or A grade, compared to just 20% of boys.

Although boys have beaten girls at GCSE math's for the third year in a row, however girls are still significantly ahead in English, with over 70% of entries from girls achieving a C grade or above, overall the A* to C pass rate has risen for the 23rd year.

Significantly less students are taking a foreign language since it stopped being compulsory in 2004, for the first time French dropped out of the GCSE top 10, prompting calls by universities for urgent action to save foreign languages in state schools.

Across Bromley borough students have again done exceptionally well, with over 41% of students at Bromley High School for Girls being awarded the top A* grade and 97% of all results being awarded an A*, A or B grade. Headteacher Louise Simpson said: "We are absolutely delighted with ever one of our year 11 girls."

It was another record success for students at Sydenham High School also, with 98.5% of students achieving at least five A* to C grades, including Math's and English.

In Croydon borough students at Royal Russell School recorded a pass rate of over 96%, with 42% of all subjects gaining an A* or A grade. At Virgo Fidelis School, in Upper Norwood 73% of students achieved 5 A* to C grades, including English and Math's. In Crystal Palace students at the popular Harris City Academy also received some very impressive GSCE results with over 95% achieving  at least five A* to C grades in all subjects, including Math's and English.

You could be forgiven for undervaluing the importance of GCSEs, but with the development of more state academies for pupils right up to sixth form age, the opportunity to reinvest in other subjects, more suited to an individuals skill sets or interests, is a now more attainable prospect. Above average GCSE exams results are much more achievable with the extra funding and support provided by academies. Those students who might have recorded low grade passes should not consider them an indication of a their real ability or career potential, there is always the option to retake.

Congratulations and Good Luck to all students who passed!!

We want to hear all about YOUR results...
