The scramble for places in clearing has kicked off, the Guardian reported that according to UCAS 'over 185,000 candidates are chasing 29,000 unfilled places on degree courses, with the number of applicants to UK universities rising to a record high of 673,570.'
With the increase in tuition fees now playing a major deciding role for most students, those with an A* grade are in a much better position, as the A* grade is being used to discriminate between the best candidates at an increased number of universities across London and many are even offering incentives to students with the highest pass results, in order to help sway their decision, but demand is still high and places limited so even if you have passed with flying colours, you might still have to go through clearing.
There is now even an iphone app which allows students to search a list of suitable vacancies at universities, live from UCAS, whilst on the move.
