Officers from Penge and Cator Safer Neighbourhood Team, together with London Street Rescue went out to help homeless men who were left in freezing conditions.
As the temperatures dropped to -3 in Penge and freezing fog set in last night, three homeless Polish males were found sleeping rough by PCSOs Goodfellow and Tuley.
Street Rescue had brought along Polish translators, so with their help the rough sleepers were engaged with and were taken to safe premises by London Street Rescue for the night out of the severe cold.
They will be offered support, outreach work and general health checks as well as a hot meal and hot drinks during their stay.
Sergeant Rob Goodwin from the Penge and Cator SNT said: "Rough sleeping has been subject of a number of anti-social behaviour complaints, particularly by the business community in Pence."
"By assisting those affected proactively , we can reduce those complaints as well as work with the individuals for as long as it takes to help them move away from a street lifestyle, no matter how complex their needs.
"People sleeping rough are very vulnerable and this sort of joint initiative can save lives".
