The Crystal Palace Peace Concert is a direct response to last year's August riots and organisers hope to show a more positive side to our community by organising an event that will celebrate and generate harmony, as well as being a really great day out for people of all cultures and generations.
The concert will be held on Saturday 1st September 2012 at the Concert Bowl, an iconic location that has played host to many stars including Bob Marley in 1980. As well as promoting unity and peace, money raised by the concert will be ploughed back into local charities.
One local resident, speaking on a video on the Crystal Palace Peace Concert website said: "It's very good to promote the peace and give young people something to look forward to. This will strengthen our community and reduce the violence on our streets."
Local Councillor Tom Papworth, who is supporting the organisers said: "This is a great opportunity to build a stronger community in Crystal Palace. By appealing to people of all ages and from all backgrounds, we can share a sense of being part of our neighbourhood and reject the violence and distrust that was in evidence last August."
There are all sorts of opportunities whether you are a local business that wants to sponsor the event, a local musician or band that wants to play or a local resident that just wants to help out. You could be an event organiser, electrician, journalist, photographer or just somebody with bags of energy, the Crystal Palace Peace Concert wants to hear from you!
