Freezing Cold Weather Predictions Say Snow Is On The Way...

The cold spell is in full swing and the late winter freeze means minus temperatures from now right up until the end of February, but what does this mean for people living in the South East?

Could we be in for more of the same? (A very snowy Crystal Palace parade, taken winter 2010.)
Temperatures across London and the South East are set to plummet to -5 between now and the weekend, bringing with it frost, sleet and the possibility of snow. February is notorious for the white stuff so this might not come as a surprise. According to Yahoo 'a high-pressure system hanging over Scandinavia and western Russia is set to push raw, easterly winds towards the UK as the week progresses, causing the longest spell of cold weather so far this winter.'
In the South East we haven't yet been promised snow, but that doesn't mean we will be escaping the freezing conditions. Crystal Palace is one of the highest points in South London so expect the wind chill factor to be considerably higher here than anywhere else.
The rest of the week it's supposed to look like this:
Monday 30th - Cloudy although some sunny intervals may develop, possible wintry showers later across the Kent coast. Maximum temperature 4 degrees during the day, dropping to zero at night.
Tuesday 31st - Dry and cold, cloudy and overcast highs of 3 degrees, dropping to -2 overnight night.
Wednesday 1st - Bright, sunny spells during the day, possible light winds with highs of 3 degrees and lows of -2, with bitterly cold winds and with frost overnight.
Thursday 2nd - Cloudy and overcast with a chance of some sun for most of the day, top temperature of 2 degrees, dropping to -4 causing widespread frost overnight.
Friday 3rd - Bright and sunny but freezing cold temperatures of 1 degree during the day, dropping to -3 overnight.
Weekend - There is a risk of rain, sleet and a scattering of snow falling on frozen surfaces, giving a possible widespread ice risk. Snow will continue to move eastwards across south east London on Sunday and could accumulate anything from 5-10cm in many places, so wrap up warm and only venture out if you really have to! Be warned this could also lead to some travel disruptions.
