Swanky gastro pub The Sparrowhawk formerly the Hollybush, is the newest arrival to the Triangle. The dramatic transformation from dark and dingy to bright and spacious has made the drinking hole unrecognisable even to locals!

I was pretty impressed by the speedy redevelopment and have already heard good things, so this week I decided to check it out for myself. The bar offers the usual spirits, wines, ciders and beers including a couple of new ales, and their British food menu was surprisingly affordable and varied serving traditional delights such as homemade burgers £6.50, rump steak with peppercorn sauce £10.50 and

confit of duck with gratin dauphinois, red cabbage and jus £14.50, a selection of desserts starting from £5 and a rather tempting Good Taste cheese board with crackers and onion marmalade for £7.

The generous layout and big wood tables means there uis plenty of space for all your friends and the teacup and saucer candleholders add a nice touch of vintage class.

As I only popped in for an after work drink with a friend, we didn't have time to sample the food, instead I opted for a cold pear Bulmers and took a seat outside in the cute, bijou beer garden, to enjoy the last of the sunshine, but I intend to return very soon to sample the wild mushroom risotto and the creme brulee. Yum.

What do YOU think of the new pub?
