Detectives have launched an investigation after a cash-in-transit robbery in Thornton Heath on Saturday.

A secruity van was attacked on London Road, outside of Tesco Express.

A security guard was approached by a young male who stole the cash box, assaulting the guard in the process.

The suspect along with a second male fled the scene with the cash box in a silver coloured vehicle, heading in the direction of Galpins Road.

Both men are described as black males in their late teens.

The guard was not injured and there were no reports of any firearms used or seen.

Detective Constable Mike Nolan, Tower Bridge Flying Squad, said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in or around the area of London Road shortly before 1300hrs on Saturday 26 January."

"The robbery happened in broad daylight on a busy afternoon in front of may people who were filling up with petrol on the forecourt. Anyone with any information that could assist us is asked to call."

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call the Flying Squad on 020 7232 6530; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
